Why do you think Sydney Craft Week is important/what drives you to be part of the Festival?
Primrose Park Art and Craft Centre sees Craft Week as one of the key events on the annual calendar. It is a chance for all groups who use the centre to come together and showcase the work that happens in its studios and dark room. This unique centre is home to six groups practicing in the fields of Paper Art, Basketry, Textiles, Calligraphy, Photography and Painting. Naturally we also hope to encourage those that visit to also join a group and get involved in exhibiting next year! We love to grow our crafting community.
How does your event respond to the Festival theme ‘material intelligence’?
This is a difficult question to answer - mainly because of the breadth of arts and crafts which will be on display. We are holding our breath to see what amazing submissions come in from our top talent. The materials used in pieces on display will be both natural and recycled. What we can promise is you will be amazed at the skill and creativity of the contributing artisans. The theme has really resonated from day one. Responding to the natural intelligence in the materials we use is central to what we do at the centre.
What can people expect from your event?
A chance to visit what has been described as a 'hidden creative gem' - an unique group studio supporting so many disciplines in the crafting world. Every year visitors are inspired to join our groups - so they can learn, contribute and exhibit. Whether you are a keen amateur or a seasoned crafting professional this event offers something for you.
