Material Intelligence: Workshops
Sydney Craft Week is an opportunity to engage with the 2025 theme and increase your material intelligence with the many workshops being offered across Sydney. Try your hand at making a basket with fabric from your stash at The Sewing Basket in Kincumber; fold, stitch and bind yourself into a Bookbinding journey at the Owl and Lion Bindery in Ultimo or join Rachel Shaw of Waiting for Spring at Japanese Tools Australia for a variety of hands-on-carving classes.
Some particular highlights of the festival will be Nanja: Stories Rewoven with master weavers from the remote community of Numbulwar in South East Arnhem Land. Spend time at the workshop learning about traditional weaving techniques as well as about contemporary weaving using repurposed ghost nets at Hazelhurst Arts Centre. After a popular program in 2024, STEAMpop will facilitate Men Make 2.2, a 2 hour workshop engaging with play, mathematics and paper engineering aimed at, but not exclusively for, men and boys.
